SENSE at ESWC 2025: Causal Discovery, Chatbots, and Coastal Collaboration

Last week, some members of the SemSys team attended the Extended Semantic Web Conference (ESWC) 2025, held from June 1–5 in beautiful Portorož, Slovenia. A highlight of the week was Katrin’s presentation at the first Causal Neurosymbolic AI (CausalNeSy) Workshop 2025, where she introduced our recent work “Exploring LLMs for Causal Discovery in Cyber-Physical Systems”. The paper explores how large language models can support reasoning and discovery in complex technical domains — a key step toward more intelligent, explainable systems.

Alongside the academic program, the team used the opportunity to push forward on the SENSE chatbot, fine-tuning features and wrapping up key components as the project approaches its final phase. Between coding sessions, we enjoyed inspiring talks, beachside coffees, and many lively discussions with fellow researchers.

We return from this trip with fresh ideas and renewed motivation — and are excited to present the results at the upcoming SENTIS Workshop at Semantics 2025 in Vienna, co-organized by SENSE members Konrad Diwold, Marta Sabou, Gernot Steindl, and Katrin Schreiberhuber.

📢 Call for Contributions: The SENTIS Workshop (https://semsys.ai.wu.ac.at/sentis2025/) is now open for submissions! We welcome contributions on semantic technologies, intelligent systems, and human-centered AI. Join us in shaping the conversation at Semantics 2025 — and be part of a vibrant, interdisciplinary community.
