Attending ISWS’2024 in Bertinoro
This year, another member of the SemSys Group (Katrin Schreiberhuber) had the chance to visit the International Semantic Web Research Summer School (ISWS 2024), taking place in Bertinoro. As every year, the week was tightly packed with lectures and keynotes, research collaborations and networking, riddles and morning workouts, and of course a variety of fun social activities.
During the Poster Session, we got to present our own research and engaged in insightful discussions on our work with the tutors and students, while for this year’s research project, we grouped into teams and tackled the topic of Knowledge Graphs and Generative AI.
Katrin’s group, supervised by Marieke van Erp, focused on investigating historical biases. The project investigated the influence of classical plays, such as Shapespeare on modern movies, using LLMs and network graphs to automatically extract relations from movie and play scripts. In the course of the project, a framework was developed to be able to compare character roles from different stories based on their interactions in an automated way. Analysing these comparisons can then help to find influences of classic stories as well as their changes over time.
