Presentation at MSCPES 2020 “Simulation Support for Explainable Cyber-Physical Energy Systems”

On Tuesday, 21 April 2020, one paper from the SemSys group was presented in the 8th workshop on Modeling and Simulation on Cyber-Physical Energy Systems. The paper is the result of cooperation with Siemens and is entitled: “Simulation Support for Explainable Cyber-physical Energy Systems (CPES)”. The authors are: Peb R. Aryan, Fajar J. Ekaputra, Marta Sabou, Daniel Hauer, Ralf Mosshammer, Alfred Einfalt, Tomasz Miksa, Andreas Rauber.

The paper proposes an explainable CPS approach based on knowledge graphs for providing explanations of Cyber-Physical Energy Systems such as smart grids. In doing so, the proposed approach uses the BIFROST simulation environment as a basis to enable testing the explainable algorithms in in vitro settings. The audience provided great feedback on our work,  including questions such as  (i) the availability of publicly available tools for converting CPES data to knowledge graphs; (ii) privacy issues regarding the generated explanations, and (iii) the potentials of modeling more complex and realistic scenarios where there are circular dependencies or cascading blackouts.

The workshop was  part of the Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet-of-Things Week 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the workshop was hosted as a virtual event, which was organised as follows: for each selected workshop paper a presentation was recorded beforehand so that other participants could watch the presentations prior to the workshop. The actual teleconference session included the keynote presentation and the interactive question and answering session for each paper.
