Cogan Shimizu’s Visit to the SemSys

A few weeks ago (25.08 – 02.09), we had the honor to host Cogan Shimizu‘s visit to our Semantic System Research Group at WU! His visit was very eventful from the beginning, with some unexpected twists on the flights to Vienna (details can be asked to him directly :)!

But finally, he arrived safely and we started with an introduction to our research group on Monday (25.09), where Marta provided an overview of various research topics being conducted in our research group – ranging from Digital Humanisms to Auditability and Neurosymbolic AI.

The following day (26.09), Cogan gave a research talk at our DPKM Institute of WU, outlining his past, present, and plan for his future work at his KASTLE Lab at Wright State University, which was very interesting and well-attended! (cf. photo above – credit @Marta).

We continued the discussion during the week, where several touching points were discussed, including AI and Education, the impact of KG characteristics on Neurosymbolic AI systems, the extended Boxology patterns, and the SENSE ontology.

The visit was (non-officially) closed with dinner in the week after at Mary’s Metcha Market, showcasing Vienna’s hospitality and multicultural side! We discussed many things (including cats!) and outlined possible future collaborations – we are looking forward to concretely working on these topics and his next visit!
