SemSys attending NeSy Workshop 2023 in Siena, Italy

Last week, our team had the privilege of attending the NeSy Workshop 2023 in La Certosa di Pontignano, Siena, Italy. The workshop brought together researchers, scholars, and professionals from various disciplines to explore the latest advancements and engage in thought-provoking discussions on the topic of neural-symbolic systems (NeSy).

The workshop offered a set of interesting keynotes from renowned researchers in the field, interesting presentations submitted papers as well as recently-published papers from top conferences. Experts shared their research findings, shedding light on the latest developments and challenges in the field. Coffee breaks and networking sessions provided the perfect opportunity for researchers to interact and exchange thoughts on shared research interests.

One of the highlights of the workshop was the poster sessions, where researchers could showcase their work and discuss their topics. Attendees eagerly discussed the presented research, exchanging insights and fostering collaboration. The posters provided a snapshot of the current state of NeSy research and offered a glimpse into the future of this dynamic field.

On Tuesday, Katrin Schreiberhuber presented a poster on Causality Prediction in Knowledge Graphs using Knowledge Graph Embeddings. Based on a smart grid use case, a framework on deriving new causality knowledge using neural-symbolic approaches was presented. Hiere is a link to the poster presenting this work.

Marta Sabou presented the recently published paper “Combining machine learning and semantic web: A systematic mapping study” on Wednesday. Here is a link to the poster presenting this work

The NeSy Workshop 2023 was a testament to the collaborative spirit and innovative thinking that define the field. By fostering dialogue, encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations, and showcasing groundbreaking research, the workshop not only propelled the NeSy field forward but also laid the foundation for future breakthroughs.

In conclusion, the NeSy Workshop 2023 in Siena, Italy was a remarkable event that brought together researchers from around the world to explore the frontiers of neural-symbolic systems. Through captivating presentations, engaging poster sessions, vibrant discussions, and valuable networking opportunities, the workshop was a huge success.

We are grateful for the opportunity to have attended the NeSy Workshop 2023 and eagerly anticipate future iterations of this exceptional event that continues to push the boundaries of neural-symbolic systems research. Already looking forward to next year’s edition, hosted in Barcelona.
